Greetings and welcome to another school year.  I especially want to say hello to our new families.  We are glad you are here.  I am excited about the 2017-2018 school year and where it will take us!  It is enjoyable to work with everyone in order to give our students an educational experience that develops their academic and social skills.

As the challenges involved in teaching children increase, it is even clearer how important it is that home and school work together to insure our children reach their potential.  For this to happen, communication must first occur.  Please do not hesitate to bring your ideas, questions or concerns to the school staff.  Your input is very valuable and needs to be heard.  It is always worth the time to call, email, text, or meet in person.

During the past two years, we have been intensely focused on reading and math.  Curricular material adopted in both areas have been challenging to staff and students.  Early indicators are pointing to the success of these adoptions, including Iowa Assessment scores.  There is still much room for improvement, and we will continue moving forward.

Writing instruction has always been part of our educational program. We recognize how important the ability to clearly communicate in writing is for our students. This year, we will be devoting more time and energy to developing writing skills. New teaching materials and strategies will help in this effort to grow students’ writing proficiency.

Again, I eagerly anticipate the beginning of school.  It is a wonderful time of excitement and anticipation.  It will be awesome to see all the students, and hear the voices in the halls.  It’s going to be a great year!
